Hundreds of cyclists pay tribute to SW Idaho man

Associated Press - June 21, 2009 3:14 PM ET

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Hundreds of cyclists participated in a funeral procession for a southwest Idaho man who was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle while biking a popular route in Boise.

Lynn Johnston, a member of a local cycling club Kevin Pavlis belonged to before his death, helped organize the tribute to the 37-year-old Saturday and says about 300 riders made the trip, from a Meridian church to Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise.

Pavlis, who was wearing a helmet during the June 11 collision with a vehicle driven by a teenager, was the third cyclist to die within the span of a month in Idaho's capital city.

Jim Lee Chu of Eagle and Thomas D. Bettger of Boise died May 21 after being struck by automobiles.
