Pingree Woman Nabs 20-pound Trout; Sets State Record

Updated:

By Kristi Henderson

All a Pingree woman wanted for her 50th birthday was to go fishing and she got herself a big present.

Michelle Williams hooked this 20-pound rainbow trout. It measured 34 and a quarter inches long.

Michelle's trophy trout breaks a state record more then 60 years old. In 1947, an angler snagged a 19 pound rainbow at Hayden Lake.

Michelle was fishing just below Tilden Bridge in Pingree and baited the fish using a just a worm. She says there were a couple of other boats near by and the fishermen were laughing because they didn't think she had a fish on the end of her line.

But surely the laughing stopped once she pulled the twenty pounder out of the water.
