JEROME, Idaho (AP) - The future home of the Jerome city hall, police and fire station could one day be on land that was once home to an elementary school.
Officials from the southern Idaho city this week agreed to buy a 7.7-acre parcel for nearly $400,000 from the Jerome School District. The land is former home of Central Elementary School. It is also the same parcel once eyed by county officials for a proposed new jail and sheriff's station. But voters have rejected that idea.
City Administrator Ben Marchant tells the Times-News there is no hurry in building a new municipal complex.
City Councilman John Shine says buying the land now for future development is in the best interests of the community and taxpayers.
