They've overcome the odds stacked against them and are now sharing their inspiring message of hope with local high school students.

It wasn't too long ago that Idaho State University students Eric Trejo and Kayla Avery were in high school facing the challenge of attending college.  Both students believed they lacked the resources necessary to obtain higher education, but worked to get past those obstacles.

On Tuesday the two spoke to a group of Blackfoot High School students about the reality of going to college.  Kayla and Eric addressed the many financial resources available that have helped them to succeed.  They hope their simple message of overcoming obstacles will make a big impact in the lives of others.

Kayla Avery, ISU student: "if I was in their situation, which I was, then I would want the help.  We just want to let them know that they're not alone."

Eric Trejo, ISU student: "I was just glad that I was able to help.  I didn't think that I'd be that much of an influence, but if they did take it that way, then I did what I came to do then."

The students put together today's high school visit as part of an assignment for their political science class at ISU.
