An eight-year-old boy is charged with three counts of aggravated assault after he allegedly threatens fellow students with a knife.

Idaho Falls Police say the incident happened on Tuesday after school at Dora Erickson Elementary. It began on the school grounds then continued down the road.

The eight-year-old reportedly tackled a girl, and showed her the knife and made a verbal threat. Police say in the incident the boy pulled the knife on a total of three 10-year-old girls and then punched them.

Principal Bruce Cook says the police were called and the student was suspended. Cook says there will be a hearing at a later date to determine if the child needs to be expelled the rest of the year for the incident, or if he is no longer a threat to the safety of the school and can return.
