The announcement of a $700 billion government bail out for some wall street organizations has many Americans up in arms.
Several Eastern Idaho citizens gathered this afternoon to voice their opposition to the proposed bail out. They say their concern is that the money used to bail out organizations like AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac feeds corporate greed and does little to help homeowners who are truly suffering from the economic crisis.
The goup, headed by the United Acton for Idaho, gathered outside of the Idaho Falls offices of Senators Larry Craig and Mike Crapo.
Harry Guelzow/Bailout Protester: "The government shouldn't be bailing out Wall Street. We should be thinking abut Main Street and peoples' issues here. There's a lot of needs that we have in this country besides bailing out a bunch of guys that got us into this hole in the first place."
The group says they hope to atract the attention of Idaho's congressional delegation, who will have to vote on the plan in the near future.
Meantime Senator Mike Crapo is in Washington working on the bailout package. He says this is a problem the national lawmakers need to address.
Sen. Mike Crapo/(R) Idaho: "Some have said this is our economic Pearl Harbor and I think that's accurate. Congress does need to act or we could see severe economic crisis face this country."
Crapo also said he thinks changes need to be made to the President's plan to protect taxpayers and make sure corporate executives do not benefit financially from taxpayer money.
