Pocatello High School has one of its biggest games of the year Friday night, but a District 25 personnel matter will keep a familiar face off the Poky sideline Friday night, leaving many of the Indians' faithful upset. Bill Kotowski reports.
Tomorrow night, the Pocatello football team will take on cross-town rival Century at Holt Arena, but it was their play against another cross-town rival that will keep Head Coach Tom Harrison off the sidelines.
Earlier today, dozens of players and parents met with school district officials to plead the case of their coach after yesterday's announcement that he will be placed on administrative leave.
After last Friday's football game between Pocatello and Highland, the school district received several complaints about Poky's play. The questionable plays came on several kickoffs when a Poky player hit Highland quarterback Taysom Hill after Hill kicked the ball.
Although Pocatello was not flagged in the game for those plays, district officials decided to place Harrison on leave while they investigate the incident. The school district says because this is a personnel issue, they cannot release the details of the investigation, but they did say it is unfortunate any time a situation like this comes up.
Shelley Allen, District 25: "Any time this administration has to make any kind of decision to suspend or discipline an employee, it's very difficult. It's probably the most difficult part of the job. When it comes to athletics and students and parents, it becomes even more difficult."
There is no time-frame on how long the district's investigation will take, but Harrison will remain on leave until after the incident is sorted out.
