Across America Saturday rallies were held in opposition of Proposition 8.  Proposition 8 was passed in California earlier this month, and bans gay marriage.  One such rally was held in Idaho Falls.

One little number has spurred controversy across the country. Although California was the only state voting to ban gay marriage this past election, rallies were held across the country Saturday, including one in Idaho Falls to show opposition to Prop 8.  Those in opposition to Proposition 8 say its not just about gay marriage.

Lyn Cameron, Minister, Unitarian Universalist Church:"It matters deeply to me that this town becomes more open, accepting and loving of diversity in every way."

Cherie Stevens, Mother of gay son: "When we had heard that Proposition 8 had passed we were very saddened to think that we had taken a step backward as far as a country for equal rights for all."

Cherie Stevens was protesting for her son who's gay, and who lives in California.

Cherie Stevens, Mother of gay son: "We want our son to have the very same rights as his straight brothers."

Cherie and her husband were among a group of 60 individuals at the Bonneville County Courthouse who all wanted to make their voices and opinions heard.  They say our country was founded on the idea of equality and will now just take some time before this rings true for everyone.

Lyn Cameron, Minister, Uniterian Universalist Church: "I think this is something that takes time... and we're going to sort it out."

Those for the constitutional amendment say gay marriage ruins the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman.
