BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The head of the Idaho Senate says Sen. John McGee has resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment involving a female senate attache.

McGee -- the fourth ranking Republican in the Senate -- submitted his letter of resignation Wednesday morning. Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill says he learned of the allegations against the Caldwell Republican Saturday.

Hill said it was McGee's decision to step down. But Hill also said McGee did not admit to any wrongdoing. Hill says he accepted McGee's resignation and acted this week to ensure the safe, secure and professional work environment of senate employees.

The Attorney General has been asked to investigate the allegations.
