The homeless in Pocatello are getting some help today thanks to the organization Aid for friends. A fundraiser at lower ross park was held to benefit the needy in this community.
Executive Director of Aid For Friends BJ Stensland explained that, “We’re having a summer fun fundraiser today were doing it to support our homeless shelter were going to have a barbeque were going to have music and then after some games were going to take over the aquatic complex.”
For those who support the fundraiser, BJ says that the raffle alone is worth the trip
“We’ve got raffles; we’ve got the best raffle prizes that I’ve seen in a long time. We’re going to be giving away 15-16 different raffle prizes and then after it’s all over we go relax and cool off in the pool,” Stensland said.
Robert Poleki is a Social Worker who has helped bannock county individuals and families for over seven years. He serves on the Aid for Friends board and feels that this cause means helping our neighbors.
“Homeless people in Bannock County need a hand just with rent or getting that next step,” Poleki explained. “A few dollars to help them move into a place to prevent homelessness and help people move on and become active members of the community.”
Poleki added that he knows from first-hand experience that these programs can help the homeless.
“I was a product of programs when I was growing up. Resources in the community helped me get a college degree and become successful so I know that programs do work giving back to the community is my way of showing appreciation for that,” Poleki said.
