If you or a loved one have had to fight cancer, you know what a difficult thing that is, especially if you have to go get your treatments far away from home. Well now cancer patients who receive their treatments in Idaho Falls have something new to take advantage of.
4 hotels in the Idaho Falls area have decided to join the American Cancer Society’s Patient Lodging Program by donating a place to stay for cancer patients to rest after treatment.
Idaho Falls’ LeRitz Hotel and Suites, Guest House Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn Airport and La Quinta Inn are the four Idaho Falls area hotels that want to give back to cancer patients.
“I think we all have friends, family that have all been affected by cancer, and I have some people near and dear to my heart that have passed away from cancer, so it was the easy choice, it was helping out people that couldn’t afford to come into town and afford lodging expenses so we decided to become part of the program” said owner of LeRitz Shawn Galer.
This program provides overnight accommodations to cancer patients who travel for outpatient treatment but can’t afford a place to stay.
Even though hotels have been affected by the recession, some have decided to step up and provide this valuable service to families.
“It feels great; it’s the right thing to do” continued Galer.
To be eligible for the gift patients must be undergoing cancer treatments as well as reside in a permanent residence outside of the treatment facility by either 50 miles or 90 minutes.
Cancer patients can make requests to stay in a hotel to the American Cancer Society through a medical provider.
Since outpatient treatments are typically scheduled from Monday to Friday, nights of lodging will be available from Monday through Thursday.
