Bannock Commissioners Discuss Charlotte Fire Building Fees

A group of property owners in bannock county is voicing their opinion that tax payer dollars should not be used to help victims of the charlotte fire.

The associate property tax payers of bannock county wrote a letter to the county commissioners saying tax dollars should not be used to pay for building permit fees.

A hearing was set earlier today to discuss the costs associated with the charlotte fire. 
Commissioner howard manwaring said that he looked into what other cities were doing and most had not used tax money to cover permit costs for victims.

Manwaring added that he feels like city leaders have helped out as best they can by  waving land fill fees, extending deadlines, and brunting the expense of the fire.

The commissioners concluded the meeting by approving a motion to leave the fees in place for fire victims; with one ammendment for those whose insurance will not cover the cost.

"Go to seicaa and fill out an application if you qualify for the reimbursement of this fee for the building permits," said Chairman Steve Hadley.

And commissioner Hadley says if you fail to quality for the seicaa reimbursement. Then you can take your case to the commissioners and they will make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
