A wanted man is in serious condition in a Utah hospital Thursday after he was shot by Bannock County Sheriff's Deputies.

Sheriff Lorin Nielsen says deputies responded to a hit and run accident around 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, on Hiline road between Chubbuck and Fort Hall.

The suspect refused to stop his car and a chase ensued.  When the pursuit reached the Fort Hall Reservation, Fort Hall Police used spike strips to slow down the driver.

Sheriff Nielsen says the man continued to resist arrest and even rammed a Bannock County squad car.  Deputies then decided lethal force may be necessary and fired shots at the suspect.  The man was hit and immediately rushed to Portneuf Medical Center.  He was later flown to a Utah hospital in serious condition.

Since the officer-involved shooting happened on the Fort Hall Reservation, both the FBI and an outside agency, the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, has been called in to investigate.

A news conference has been scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Thursday, to give Bannock County a chance to release more details.
