The first-ever statewide day of charitable giving has already earned local nonprofits over $100,000 as of 9 a.m., Thursday morning.
"Idaho Gives is going to be a real shot in the arm for many local nonprofits, in terms of the attention that the nonprofit sector and individual organizations are receiving and in terms of the opportunity to raise money in new and creative ways," noted Margaret Ganyo, Executive Director of United Way of Southeastern Idaho.
Over 73 SE Idaho nonprofits are participating in Idaho Gives and encouraging both current supporters and first-time donors to join forces with Idahoans all across the state and give to the organizations that are near and dear to their hearts. Across the state, over 400 nonprofits are registered and eligible to receive both online donations and additional monies from a sponsor-funded award pool on May 2. Nonprofits will have an opportunity to participate in contests and random drawings throughout the day to earn additional cash awards.
Idaho Gives is modeled after other successful philanthropic giving days in states and cities across the country. Organizers expect that the 24-hour giving blitz will raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in total for the many participating nonprofits.
Collaborating nonprofits will also host an "Idaho Gives" live event at the Idaho Central Credit Union branch on 5th and Benton in Pocatello from 5:00 to 7:00pm where representatives will be on hand with computers to help facilitate your online gift. Music, entertainment, and a few surprises are being planned by the local nonprofit community to draw further attention to Idaho Gives.
"We're just excited about having a single day, during which the focus of Idahoans will be on the many nonprofits that serve and strengthen our communities," said Ganyo. "Given the diversity of nonprofits and the wide range of services and causes they represent, these organizations form a critically important sector of our state economy. Supporting them on May 2 will go a long way toward maintaining our quality of life in Idaho."
Idaho Gives is presented by the Idaho Nonprofit Center and sponsored by St. Luke's Health System and Idaho Central Credit Union. Idaho Gives can be found on Facebook and Twitter and at http://www.idahogives.org.
