The holiday season is often one of shopping and hustle and bustle, but Saturday in Pocatello, it was also one of giving. The Steven D. Merrell Marine Corps League Detachment No. 698 put on their annual toys for tots program at the Bannock county Fairgrounds.

Event Organizer, Vicki Jenkins explained that, “Toys for Tots distributes these toys to the needy children in the community that wouldn’t probably otherwise have a Christmas morning.”

Admission was a new, unwrapped toy. It meant at ticket to hot food and fireworks and a chance to help children in need.

It’s just amazing every year. That’s why I keep doing it, because people are so generous in our community, they are.

Few people know as much about helping children in need as Santa Claus, who says this trip was a great way to get ready for Christmas

Santa explained that the trip was helpful because, “the Reindeer really get out of shape. And so we gotta get them in shape for Christmas. So what better way to do that (outside of) getting them in shape but come down to a good event like this Christmas in the Nightime Sky.”

Finally Santa noted that children who have had a rough year being good can still make up for it with these tips.

"They gotta get with the program and be honest, help Mom and Dad, be nice to their neighbors, and loving and all that,” Claus said.
