With elections coming up next month, we wanted to take a closer look at some of the races. One of those is the City of Ammon Mayoral Race between Incumbent Steve Fuhriman and challenger Dana Kirkham.
Dana Kirkham and Steve Fuhriman are the two candidates running for Mayor of Ammon. Both have been in this area for quite some time.
"I decided to run because I've been on the Ammon City Council for the last 8 years and I feel like it's, maybe time to give up that seat and move on to maybe a new challenge, and do some new things" said Kirkham.
"I've lived here my whole life, raised my family here, lived here what 31 years, and I think it's important to have someone who has that local small-town flavor, and I've grown up with Ammon" said Fuhriman.
We also wanted to know some of the main issues they plan to tackle in the near future.
"I feel as a business man I'm qualified to meet the challenges, I have a lot of empathy for the people in the community who have had financial challenges in the last few years, which many people have, they've lost their homes and done different htings and I think I can empathise with what's going on there in that area, and that also flows over into helping keep the rates down, keep the taxes low" continued Fuhriman.
"I would say that when I decided to run for mayor that I had a list of things that I wanted to accomplish, and those things are still important and I want to address them, but as I've been out, talking to people, I have found that the #1 issue in Ammon is utility rates, and I have gotten the message loud and clear, that people do not want their utility rates increased, and so as Mayor I think that's my #1 challenge" continued Kirkham.
The Bonneville County Elections will be held on Tuesday, November 5th.
