The U.S. Department of Energy presented the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office with a Humvee this morning.
It’s an all-terrain tool for protecting law enforcement officers and security guards responding to dangerous situations.
Bingham County called the Department of Energy and made the request for the Humvee when they found out they were getting new bearcats.
The INL has two more Humvees they plan to give to other law enforcement agencies.
“Well mostly we’ll use it for our SRT team to transport officers to scenes that we’re involved with and use it in other capacities, but that’ll be the main reason we’ll use it” said Sheriff Craig Rowland.
The Idaho National Laboratory says the Humvee will enhance the overall safety for the citizens of Bingham County as well as add to the INL’s security by having it in a county where the site is located.
