In the past month there have been five highly publicized shootings, and the reports of these shootings may be contributing to Cal Edwards’ busy schedule.
“I think people are interested in knowing a lot more about guns and gun control and handling guns,” Edwards said. “They want to feel safe when they’re walking down the street.”
Edwards teaches the class in Pocatello that certifies firearm owners to receive their enhanced concealed weapons permit, a permit that allows people who pass the class to carry their concealed weapon in more states and on college campuses that allow concealed carry.
“We usually do one or two [classes] a month,” Edwards said.
Edwards taught two classes this week alone, certifying about 60 people to receive their enhanced concealed weapons permit.
Employees at Sam’s Gun Shop and Shooting Range say business has never been better, and many of their customers say they are purchasing a firearm for protection.
“We actually had a lady come in not too long ago because someone broke in to her house,” Cami Edwards, Sam’s Gun Shop employee, said. “She came in here and said ‘I want something to protect myself so if it happens again I’m not going to get caught in the middle of it’.”
Edwards says he loves teaching so he is fine with his new busier schedule, and he encourages anyone who is interested in getting their enhanced concealed carry permit to sign up for his class online.
