District 91 wants to promote reading and literacy in Idaho Falls. To do so they kicked off their One District, One Book Project.

All families with a child in one of the district’s elementary schools will receive a copy of the same book and be encouraged to read it together for the month of February.

At school, children will have the chance to answer daily trivia questions about the book.

The book they’re reading this year is called The Cricket in Times Square.

Mayor Jared Fuhriman was at Fox Hollow Elementary today handing out the books to the students.

We got their reaction to the visit from the mayor.

“Awesome” said 2nd grader Wyatt Wiest.

“It was pretty cool” said Grace Cook.

“It’s a great program and so we’re proud of them putting this together and we look forward that the proficiency in readying will keep moving up” said Mayor Fuhriman.

The books were purchased through generous donations from different businesses throughout the city.
