Romance and Downata are two words that haven’t always gone together, but now love is in the air at this southern Bannock County hot springs oasis.

“We were really trying to get things going after the Christmas season was over with, and people trying to get out of the house, getting cabin fever,” said Bret Downs, Co-Manager of Downata Hot Springs. “We decided we should do something romantic for people, especially around Valentine’s Day area and because if anybody forgets about Valentine’s Day, they are going to be in the doghouse.”

The cabins and yurts at Downata are a long ways away from the doghouse. On a clear night you can gaze at the stars through the roof of your yurt. Many of the cabins come equipped with a full kitchen and bath. Both the cabins and yurts are just steps away from the swimming facilities and a unique dining experience overlooking the pool.

“We put out a really nice steak dinner, rib eye, baked potato, salad,” said Downs. “It makes a really nice atmosphere for people and we ask that on Valentine’s evening that we don’t get any children so that it can be as romantic as possible.”

The package also includes a dessert to share as well as a sparkling beverage. And if you are surprised that your significant other didn’t forget Valentine’s Day, Downata will have keepsakes available to remind you of your special night together.

“If the guy needs to be romantic to remind himself that she’s a special part of his life, the we take a nice photo of them and then give to them in a postcard,” continued Downs.

Downata is usually only open on Friday and Saturday during the off the season but they’ll be open Thursday for Valentine’s Day.

If you are looking to do celebrate Valentine’s Day with a romantic dinner at Downata, you need to make a reservation before noon on the day you plan on visiting.
