Volunteers gathered Tuesday to help with one of the last beautification projects before the new parking lot at the Edson Fichter Nature Reserve opens.

About 170,000 people visited the park last year, prompting the need for a new and larger parking lot.The street department hopes to have the lot paved by the end of next month, weather permitting.

Volunteers gathered today to shovel rock into a new storm water swell that will help clean the storm water before sending it into the Portneuf River.

Pocatello’s Science and Environment Project Manager Hannah Sanger told us, "It's been a really great city wide effort, so many staff have been involved it's been pretty awesome. And then partnerships and volunteers, we had an eagle scout doing planting, and then community members today showed up to load rock which is really a sign of a dedicated community member to move rock."

The new parking lot will be open to people using the nearby Indian Hills soccer complex as well.
