4th graders at Longfellow Elementary School got to take a virtual tour of the State Capitol with Senator Bart Davis today.

Senator Davis led a tour of the building using a web cam. Students got to see the different levels of the State Capitol Building as well as what is done there through pictures and videos.

Idaho history is part of the 4th grade curriculum. This year is also the sesquicentennial of Idaho becoming a territory. Idaho is the 43rd state to join the union.

“I think it’s a benefit for our students to get to see state government in action and get to tour our beautiful Capitol Building in the state, the students that live closer to Boise actually get to go live and take a field trip to the Capitol, but students in remote locations further away from Boise don’t’ get the opportunity to travel there so this is as close as we can get, the virtual tours” said Director of Technology for Idaho Falls School District 91, Camille Wood.

This tour is a pilot and the state hopes to be able to do more things like this in the future for students who don’t live close to the State Capitol.
