"Things happen all the time, and we have to prepared for this stuff, the only way to do it is collaboratively, cant' do it all alone, so organizations like this where people are working together, helping make things better for everybody," says Dennis Godfrey, Director Emergency Services Public Safety.
The Southeast Idaho Healthcare Coalition (SIHC) has been meeting for the past several years to develop emergency response actions to effectively plan for and respond to various disaster response scenarios. Director of Emergency Services, Denise Godfrey, says these meetings are beneficial to attend, not only for the knowledge they provide, but for the network it creates between the people involved.
"Not just for the grant monies and the equipment and stuff that we get out of it, but the friendships and the comradery that you get, you know people working together, neighbors helping neighbors and this type of thing," added Godfrey.
With winter soon approaching, it's a good idea to be prepared for a emergencies with your vehicle. There is a few easy things you can do.You can keep water in your car, a flashlight on hand, and some kind of an emergency kit or bandages, a blanket is good to have, and last but not least, carry a cell phone on you.
"It is incredibly important for families to be prepared, what we have seen with other disasters is it takes a while for assistance to come in and personal responsibility is incredibly important because first responders cannot always get to you right away, so if you have food, water, and supplies on hand, it will make us a more resilient community," said Denise O'Farrell, Public Health Prepardness Program.
