Father's Day is just around the corner and many local families have decided to celebrate dad a day early with some free family fun.  Saturday at Sandy Downs, Riding High Ministries partnered up with several local churches and businesses around the Idaho Falls area to host a Father's Day Festival.

"The role of a father is one of the greatest privileges that God has given us and in our culture we sometimes are going in so many different directions and the pressure is on us; so anything we can do to build relationships with our children is time well spent," said Todd Pierce, President of Riding High Ministries.

The Idaho Falls Father's Day Festival lasted from 1pm to 5 pm Saturday afternoon and offered families a range of activities including, a bounce house, horse riding, games, and a few summer food favorites like cotton candy and snow cones.

When I asked, Bryce, a little girl enjoying the festivities what her favorite part of the event was, she said, "riding the horses, and I can't wait to ride one."

The event also held special presentations from Pro Bull Rider Wiley Petersen. It was followed by Shelley Native Todd Pierce who does a wild horse presentation to illustrate a deeper meaning.

"As an illustration, the horse represents the people who have a natural instinct to want to be free, but its freedom of running away actually makes it more of a slave and it never gets to discover what it was created for. As I love the horse and help it to overcome its fear, it ends up coming to me and that unity, that experience represents, that relationship that God wants to have with us and through Jesus, that makes it possible. As we submit ourselves to Him, He teaches us and helps us understand what we were created for," said Pierce.

Pierce says that the overall goal with Saturday's event was to help strengthen family relationships and to share God's love.

"He has gone all over the world doing this presentation and so we thought since we live here in Southeast Idaho it would be really neat to bring what we do all over the world to our area, to our friends and family," said Wiley Petersen, a Professional Bull Rider.

"I've been busy chasing my daughter around, she is having a great time. So much to see and do, and of course there is the horses. Which once you mix horses and little girls together it just can't get better than that," said Todd Johnson, a Dad celebrating an early Father's Day.

Bryce just had one more thing to say to her dad.

"Happy Father's Day," added Bryce.
