A smoker once said, “quitting is the hardest thing you’ll ever do.” It’s no secret that smoking is addictive but dozens of smokers in the Gate City claim they have not only found a new way to quit but that it is easy too.
Most smokers will reach this point sometime in their life. Some will want to quit because of money, 22-year-old Jeremy did it after an eye opening experience at work.
“A couple of months ago we had to go get fitted for respirators and we had to breath in this straw for a couple of minutes, in and out,” said Jeremy Olsen. “I got told I had 55-year-old lungs and so after that I was like yeah I should give that up.”
It turns out making the decision to quit was the easy part. The hard part was following through.
“It was terrible,” said Jeremy. “I was angry, irritable. The whole time all I cared about was getting a cigarette.”
It’s a story Greg Cates can relate to. Greg was a smoker for 27 years. He tried to quit at least a dozen times but that all changed when one of his friends let him use their e-cigarette.
“I saw it, I tried it and within that 24-hour period after seeing the personal vapor, I used it and quit smoking,” said Cates.
That was five and a half months ago and Greg hasn’t gone back. He was so impressed with the results that he decided to open a Vape Shop in Old Town Pocatello. It’s a decision that has changed the lives of dozens of area smokers including young father to be Jeremy, who is smoke free.
“This helped,” said Jeremy. “It got rid of all the cravings. When I was quitting, the main thing that I craved for was that inhale puff of smoke and this is the only thing I got it from.”
“You have to give it a chance for it to work,” said Greg. “You’ll find out that it will work for you. Our success rate is extremely high. The vapor has a success rate over 88 percent as opposed to patches and gum which is as low as 15 percent.”
The e-cigarettes do contain nicotine but don’t have tar or a lot of the other chemicals that are usually found in traditional cigarettes. “Smoke This” is open six days a week Main Street in Old Town Pocatello.
