Every year, hundreds of outdoor recreationists and extreme sports enthusiasts go missing or have accidents in the back country. Most recently in Idaho were the two women who got lost at Craters of the Moon. When accidents like these happen, search and rescue teams work day and night to help those victims. Tonight; a group called Boondockers is holding a fundraiser for some of these search and rescue teams.

By statute, it is the responsibility of the Sheriff’s office to be part of; and lead search and rescue efforts in their county.

“It’s based on volunteers, all the volunteers have some kind of expertise, specialized equipment and so forth, so if we have somebody in the back country that’s lost on a snow machine, then we call in the experts with their snow machine” said Madison County Sheriff, Roy Klingler.

The only way this department gets funded is through grants and donations. One donation the Madison and Bonneville county search and rescue teams will be getting; is through Boondockers at their premiere of the Boondockers 10 movie.

“It means a lot to us because as volunteers we have to provide our own personal equipment and great, and so it helps us a lot to buy that equipment” said SAR Coordinator Tom Clawson.

“We’re really appreciative to Bonneville, to the community, to all the volunteers, the people putting on this fundraiser, all the people who’ve donated for the fundraiser, it’s pretty neat doing” continued Klingler.

Last year this same fundraiser raised $4000 for the Bonneville County Search and Rescue Team.

“A lot of what we do revolves around rescue in the back country in the winter time, and so, we’ve talked about maybe avalanche bags, that will inflate if there’s an avalanche, we bought avalanche beacons last year and got a lot better equipped with those, maybe some more cold weather equipment” continued Clawson.

Doors for the event will open at 5:00 at Billman’s Steakhouse.

Concessions inside the theater will begin at 6 and the movie will start at 7:30. There will also be big raffle prizes. Tickets are $15.
