With spring on the way many of us are looking forward to some outdoor fun and for children that can mean running, playing, and learning all about nature.    Funshine child care in idaho falls just became Idaho's first nature explore classroom after receiving national certification from the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.  Summer Joy stopped by earlier today to check it out.

One of the best ways for children to learn is by using all five of their senses and the number one way to accomplish this is through interaction with nature.  The Nature explore classroom 's goal is to help get kids out from in front of their video games to outside connecting with nature through research based outdoor learning opportunities.

"There is a huge increase in childhood obesity because they are not getting outside. They are playing video games, playing on the computer, texting on their cell phone and they're not gaining an appreciation for nature. Unless they are outside learning and exploring a garden or harvesting what we grow, playing on rocks and bolders, balance on logs, they are not going to gain an appreciation for that. They are the future, they are the ones that are going to be taking care of this world once we are gone and they need to be exposed to it," said Kathy Reynolds, the Owner of Funshine Day Care.

Funshine accomplishes this by using natural made musical instruments, garden areas, wooden blocks, climbing and encourages imagination and playing.  Children who learn and grow through the Nature Explore class are shown to have enhanced concentration, develop creativity and problem solving, relieves stress and improves skills in many areas of development.

"Just the things you can learn, even just by this straw on the ground here or the pine cones that fall from the trees, bugs and mold on logs and all these things are apart of the natural process that children can learn about. Get outdoors, work your bodies and minds and just enjoy nature and have fun in a safe environment," added Reynolds.
