Police in Idaho Falls are busy investigating a recent spree of armed robberies in the area.
Robberies during this time of year are actually not that rare; just last week a subway restaurant on 17th Street was robbed as well as a couple gas stations.
The latest robbery happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a suspect used a handgun to rob the Maverik Country Store on Broadway.
“You know the whole idea of a robbery is somebody that’s taking something by force, and so I think people tend to think that in order to do that they need a weapon of some sort unfortunately” said Public Information Officer Joelyn Hansen.
When mortality is on the line, clerks and cashiers have every right to be shaken up.
“In most states including ours; an armed robbery is considered highly offensive and so there’s put extra punishment on top of that versus just a robbery where there’s not any type of weapon used” continued Hansen.
The Idaho Falls Police Department is still investigating the recent armed robberies and is relying on the public to help identify any of the suspects.
“I can give you an example of last summer we had robberies that occurred, we put a picture up of our suspect and within probably hours we were able to get a hit thanks to the public” said Hansen.
If you have any information about these recent robberies you can contact the Idaho Falls Police Department at 529-1200.
