Many of you may have wondered, at some point, what goes on inside the Idaho National Lab....and usually, to find out you have to go take a tour.
Due to technology, a tour may not even be necessary anymore.
You can take a tour inside the INL without ever leaving your home, that's because the site just launched a new app for smartphones, tablets and androids.
“The main reason for this app was to allow people to see what actually exists here at the INL” said INL spokesmen Ethan Huffman.
Even though the app is free to the public, the INL says they took measures to make sure there were no security threats.
“We’re always very careful about the type of information that we put out, to make sure that it doesn’t go too far to where it could be a security incident or a security concern” continued Huffman.
The INL app took about a year to develop and cost several thousand dollars to make. It’s now available on the android and apple markets.
“So what we really hope comes out of this, is the ability for people to start collaborative programs, to start a dialogue and a discussion about what can actually take place here at the INL” said Huffman.
The app contains everything from news, to videos, to photos and the list goes on and on.
“You’re going to get a really good sense about what investments have been made, what the government has invested here at the laboratory, and really allow your imagination to say ‘well, I can take my project, work with the folks at the INL and together we can come up with something really incredible’” continued Huffman.
The INL thinks their app will be a gateway to a wider audience.
