The bus ride out to facilities at the Idaho National Lab is about to get a little shorter.

Starting next week, INL employees will start using a park and ride program. There will be three secure parking lots in the Idaho Falls area where site employees can leave their vehicles and get on buses for the site. This centralized approach will save the INL money on fuel, reduce bus emissions and shorten the commute time. Before, buses would be on routes that had a lot of short stops to pick up and drop off a handful of employees. The fuel savings is estimated at 100,000 gallons. The INL already uses park and ride lots in Pocatello and similar programs could be coming in other communities.
