This afternoon if you’re in Idaho Falls you may see men walking in high heels, that’s because it’s the annual “Walk a Mile in her Shoes” walk put on by the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center.
This event is put on to bring awareness to the community of domestic violence and sexual assault. In Idaho Falls there are about 1,000 women each year who are victims of sexual and domestic violence. All the money raised will go towards those victims.
“During the walk, first of all we have the men show up, they try one their shoes and then we actually have a route mapped out to walk the mile and so we carry signs, make noise, try to get a lot of attention so people driving past us will see what’s going on, and when we come back we have a tailgate party” said JoAnn Hess.
Walk a mile in her shoes was started nationally about 6 years ago. Locally, the Domestic Violence and Assault Center has been able to raise between $1,500 to $5,000 in the past. This event will be this evening; it starts at 6:00 at 1050 Memorial Drive in Idaho Falls.
There is a minimal $30 fee to participate in the walk.
