The Luna laws have started a lot of commotion in the academic world in Idaho, tonight at the OE Bell building in Idaho Falls an education reform public forum is up and running. Summer Haase stopped by the forum and has more on what they were focusing on.

This forum's goal is to help give people an opportunity to speak out about their opinions, goals, ideas and how to go about accomplishing a positive reform in Idaho.

The 2012 Delegate assembly directed the Idaho education association to organize an “Education Excellence Task force” to study and prioritize education issues and develop true quality education reform for Idaho’s public schools.

This reform has been meeting since September and there mission  is to get opinions from Idaho’s educators, residents, and parents. They are accomplishing this by performing numerous focus groups with teachers and doing these public forums.

Student success, teacher quality, technology, and career readiness are just a few of the topics that will be discussed.  All are welcome to attend, you can give your input by speaking in a three minute time frame or you can write it down.

“When the voters voted two weeks ago it was apparent these laws were not okay with the citizens of Idaho. And now we have a chance to go back to the table which is what we wanted from the beginning and to have a say and to have input in what was okay for the students,” said President of IFEA, Mitzi Ellingson.

After this 12 member group completes their research which includes all there focus groups and public forums across Idaho they will then present it to the IEA.

From there the IEA will draft it and present it to the legislators. If you want more information or to find out if a public forum is close to your home town you can visit the IEA’s website or email them at
