Jefferson County School District #251 is holding a public budget meeting at the Midway Middle School Gymnasium in Rigby tonight at 6:00. The Board of Trustees is asking for the public's input regarding the 2014 fiscal year budget.
At this meeting patrons will be asked to give their input to which cuts to expenditures should be made, and to what degree.
“I think it’s important that we consider not just our perspective but the public’s perspective because everybody comes at a problem from a different angle and sometimes they will see things that we may not have seen; and it’s important to understand collectively how the general public, the patrons, the parents, how they feel” said superintendent Ron Tolman.
In the meeting the school board will also discuss if a supplemental levy should be considered to help balance the budget.
“What we’ll have tonight is options ranging from solving the budget crunch with absolutely no supplemental levy and a vast array of budget cuts, up to having a
smaller supplemental levy and something in between, that would preserve many of the things that were going to be cut and even add a few things that we think
are critical” continued Tolman.
The proposed expenditure cuts will mean fewer services for students and parents.
