After practicing law in Bannock County for 28 years, a local attorney will leave the courthouse for the final time Friday afternoon. Bannock County Chief Prosecutor Mark Heideman is retiring after a long career in criminal law. Heideman began his career in law in 1985 and has served as chief prosecutor in Bannock County since 1992. During that time, he says he has worked on some difficult and memorable cases and he feels in each one of those cases he did he best to represent the people of Bannock County. He says he looks forward to this next chapter in his life but he will miss those he's worked with for so many years.
Mark Heideman/Bannock County Prosecutor, “I've been here so long that I have some real friendships not only with people in my office but with people in other offices in the courthouse and people in law enforcement that I've dealt with for a long time. You know I'm going to miss that day to day contact."
Heideman says he plans to head south to spend some time in warmer weather. He will be replaced as chief prosecutor Monday by Stephen Herzog.
