What would your life be like without shoes? It’s a question most of us never have to worry about. If anything, we are more concerned about what to do with all of our shoes. If you are fortunate enough to be in this category, the organizers of a local shoe drive would love to send your shoes to Africa.
According to those advocating shoe drives for Africa, there are villages where the nicest shoes aren’t Jordan’s or Doc Martens, instead it’s a flattened two liter with a strip of fabric to keep it in place.
“There’s a parasite that can actually crawl up in the soles of the people’s feet and they are called chiggers and they can be life threatening,” said Harmony Jones. “We don’t even think about stuff like that because we have plenty of shoes. Any shoes that we can give to these kids to help them survive, and live, and thrive would be good.”
They say a nice pair of gently warn shoes can make a huge difference, especially for kids. That is why the Photography Boutique in Blackfoot is participating in this project.
“It’s a feeling of satisfaction being able to contribute and kind of do our part,” said Nicholas Jones. “We are always wondering what we can do to help I think as human beings and this is kind of what we can do. We don’t always think of shoes as saving lives but in this case it really can.”
To help encourage you to make a donation, the Photography Boutique is offering a free in-studio session if you drop off a bag of a shoes. The session is valued at $125.
