A local Idaho Falls company has a lot to celebrate this week, that’s because Senator Jim Risch has named them as the Idaho Small Business of the Day in recognition of National Small Business Week.
The company is called Dome Technology and we caught up with them to see what this accomplishment means for them.
“Well that’s quite an honor to be recognized by the senator and a small business from Idaho, our dome business is something that has been growing continually for many years and we’re crossing more barriers all the time and being accepted by more industries and people” said Owner Barry South.
“Well it’s quite an honor to receive that, we were talking downstairs it would’ve been nice to receive the Small Business of the Year Award but we will take of the day award, that’s quite an honor and we are grateful for that award” said COO Bryan Butikofer.
The company was started in 1977 by three brothers: Barry, David and Randy South.
They developed and patented a thin shell monolithic dome construction process using technology to spray foam and concrete inside a pressurized dome.
“Well I enjoy accomplishing things that are worthwhile, working with good people and I feel like we’re making a contribution to society” continued South.
Right now Dome Technology employees about 150 people and they’re building domes all around the world including Canada, China and England.
“We have made great strides over the years in innovating, breaking into new markets around the world and domestically and trying to make a better structure that would be usable in a variety of different markets” continued Butikofer.
Dome Technology is in the process of constructing a new building which will be finished in about 6 months.
This marks the 50th anniversary of the National Small Business Week.
