Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg has been getting a lot of negative attention lately after a survey came out ranking them the 7th worst hospital in the nation.
The company who provided the survey is called The Leapfrog Group; they’re out of Washington D.C.
Leapfrog is an organization that measures hospital performance on a national basis.
The company’s intentions are good; but Madison Memorial says the method they use to compile data is flawed.
“When we got these surveys we went through the information there and we felt like it wasn’t’ things that geared specifically toward Madison Memorial; and so we opted out for that and we did not fill out the score card when they asked for that submittal” said Public Relations Marketing Manager Douglas McBride.
The Leapfrog Group gives a higher number of points to those facilities who complete their survey; if a facility doesn’t complete the survey they will not receive a full grade.
Even though Madison Memorial decided to opt out of the survey; the results have hurt them.
“I fell that a lot of people in that sense when they hear; you know; the put you on kind of a chart saying you know what they gave accusations for as far as our hospital situation or the scoring that they gave our hospital I guess is a better way to say it; yeah people will look at that and if they don’t’ read more into that story or to that situation or to those survey issues; they will; they’ll have a negative impact on the hospital” continued McBride.
Madison Memorial Hospital has an accreditation process every three years; and they say they’ve scored very high on those and are happy with the service they provide.
According to the Medicare Satisfaction Survey; 96% of patients gave Madison Memorial a 7 or higher on a 10 point scale.
