You've probably seen plenty of commercials about props 1, 2, and 3. In many cases throughout the state, educators are showing opposition to the changes. But the administration at one local school district has come out in support of Tom Luna’s "Student's Come First" law.
School District 93 in Idaho Falls is publicly endorsing their support for props 1, 2 and 3.
They say the props are pushing for things the school district has been trying to do all along.
Sometimes standing up for what you believe in isn’t the most popular choice, but that hasn’t stopped school district 93 from voicing their opinion about their support for propositions 1, 2 and 3.
“I mean it has to show that you have a good relationship with your teachers, that you can come out and say look, we know that the union’s opposed to this, but we in Bonneville District’s 93’s board and administration, strongly believe it’s the best for children, and they came out and did that and I think it’s a great thing” said Superintendent Dr. Charles Shackett.
Superintendent Dr. Charels Shackett says the school district has been implementing many things that are in the propositions for quite some time now; including laptops for students and even bonuses for teachers at one time.
He says all of this hard work and planning on their part is starting to pay off.
“97% of our teachers are going to receive a pay for performance bonus because 85% of our schools were in the first and second quartile of the highest ranking schools in the state, we are just out performing anyone in the area and so this is a good thing for our teachers” continued Shackett.
By the middle of this school year district 93 will have a computer available for each student from grades 1 to 8.
“We’ve been working on this for years and we’re so excited and now if it gets shut down, I think it’s a real disservice to education and to students in this community” said Shackett.
There are two other schools in the state that have also spoken out publicly about supporting some of the props. Castleford School District has also endorsed Props 1, 2 and 3 and the Meridian School District has endorsed Proposition 1.
