Even though Idaho voters rejected Propositions 1, 2 and 3, this year, they stay in effect for a little while longer. Which means local school districts can still see some of the results of the props, like pay for performance.
You may remember District 93 endorsed Props 1, 2 and 3, today the educators are seeing the results of that as they receive their pay-for-performance bonuses.
District 93 in Ammon has received $1.7 Million in pay for performance bonuses for their certified staff.
Teachers at Cloverdale elementary school are ecstatic.
“It’s thrilling at our school because every member of our certified staff is receiving a bonus today and it couldn’t be a better time of the year with you know, the holiday’s right around the corner” said Principal Jeanne Johnson.
Even though this legislation was intended to highlight teachers who work hard and help their students receive academic growth, Principal Johnson says she thinks she knows where this bonus money may be going.
“I’m sure the teachers are going to put it to good use, I just hope they don’t spend it all back at their classrooms, which, if I know my teachers that’s what they’re going to do.”
Cloverdale elementary has over 20 full time educators who will be receiving these bonuses.
“I know that there are many good teachers across the state of Idaho who may not be receiving any pay for performance bonus or maybe not nearly the amount that a school like ours is receiving, and I would say that I would be hopeful that they wouldn’t be discouraged and that they would be a part of the voice of teachers in the state of Idaho to say we believe that it’s a great thing, that we want to make it happen, we want to have a say in how it’s going to happen from now on” continued Johnson.
Today all the teachers in school district 93 who qualified for bonuses received them.
