A local southeast Idaho school administrative assistant was one of the runners in the Boston Marathon a few weeks ago. Kathy Hart was only a third of a mile away from the finish line when the bombs went off; unfortunately she did not get to finish the race.
Or so she thought; Kathy Hart may not have finished the Boston Marathon the way she thought she would, but finished it; she did.
Cheers and chants like this echoed through the Taylor’s Crossing Public Charter School parking lot; as hundreds of students gathered together to support their friend and hero; Kathy Hart.
“Actually this was her 3rd
time running Boston, this was her 30th
marathon and this was the only one she’s never finished and so she was really bummed about the fact she was stopped so close to the finish line” said Kathy’s husband, Steve.
Faculty and students at the school felt it was important for Mrs.Hart to finish the race she had started in Boston.
Together they lined the school parking lot with banners, posters and flags as Mrs. Hart ran the third of the mile she had left.
“I got to cross that finish line and its closure for me and, it just, I don’t think words could express my feelings for what these teachers and these students did in my behalf and like I said it’s for those victims back in Boston” said an emotional Kathy.
“It’s tremendous and I’m so happy to see her happy, you know she’s the love of my life and has been for 42 years now, it was great to see that, the school is tremendous” continued Steve.
Kathy Hart may not have had the chance to wave her arms in triumph on April 15th
, but perhaps this finish; was even sweeter.
Kathy says she plans to run in the Boston Marathon next year.
