A local snowboarder from Rigby is turning heads with some of the gnarly tricks she does on the course. If you want to watch her you’ll have to do it from your TV screen because she’s traveling all over the world in hopes to become eligible for the Olympics.

Jessika Jenson is only 21-years-old; but despite her age she’s already accomplished a lot.

Just last week she was competing in the FIS World Snowboarding Championships.

“There were 4 girls, including me chosen for the team to represent the US in this event, so it’s kind of like similar to how the Olympics will be and how the US will pick their team and then that team will go” said Jenson.

At the event there were 37 riders from 17 different countries.

Jessika took 9th place in the event and hopes this will boost her chances for the Olympics.

“It just boosts my confidence to know that I can compete with the best and I know I could have done better, I just need more experience competing at this level, a lot of these girls have been doing this a lot longer than I have, so I’m pretty new to this, but I feel like I’m going to catch on fast and see some good results in the future” continued Jenson.

Jessika competes in an event called slope style; it consists of jumps and rails. She’s judged on how well she executes certain tricks.

Jessika’s next event will be in Sochi, Russia…this is also the same course where the 2014 Olympics will be held.
