Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg has completely renovated the Family Maternity Center's facility and its furnishings and they let us have a sneak peak. Summer Joy was there and has the story of what the public can expect with this update.
Workers are just putting the finishing touches on the Maternity Center and that means these halls will soon be filled with 140 doctors, nurses, and staff serving the patients.
The entire project will cost almost $2 million dollars and will include a full update on floors, cabinets, basinets, bathrooms, and the south entrance by implementing a canopied temporary parking area for patient safety, plus much more. The project began in October of 2012 and will be completed with phase one by May 1st. Giving new patients an opportunity to use this new facility starting on May 3rd.
"Probably the biggest thing that we want this facility to bring is convenience, we wanted to make it a really warm feeling to come in," said Doug McBride, the Public Relations Personal for Madison Memorial Hospital.
In just May alone, the Maternity Center is expected to see over 160 babies born. Officials say that with the increasing population of Rexburg and Brigham Young University Idaho the hospital has seen a comparable increase over the last several years. In just 2012 they delivered nearly 1500 babies.
"We live in an area that has a lot of births and its just an exciting thing for us," added McBride.
McBride says their overall goal really is to enhance the mother, baby, and family experience.
They are holding an open house on May 1st from 6 p.m. To 8 p.m., they will be offering tours, information, and refreshments.
