We had to wait a little longer than other years but Madison Memorial Hospital’s New Year’s baby has finally made an appearance.
Harper Grace Higley has been named this year’s New Year’s baby at Madison Memorial Hospital.
She was born on January 2nd at 5:35 p.m. weighing in at 5 pounds 12 ounces.
“It’s pretty exciting; it was actually funny because my mom’s like how many babies have been delivered and I was like mom it’s Rexburg, there’s probably like 30 babies by now, and so I just asked the nurse and she was like actually you’re the New year’s baby, I was like oh cool” said Harper’s mother Ashlee Higley.
Little Harper is the second baby to join the Higley family; she has an older brother who is about a year and a half old.
“Oh there’s nothing else like it, I mean the first one is amazing and when you have a second one it’s just, everyone, they’re all different, you start to see the differences in them and it’s exciting to see the addition to your family” said proud father Jake Higley.
Madison Memorial hospital provided the new year’s baby family with a huge gift basket full of diapers, toys, towels and blankets.
“Oh I’ll tell you it was one of the funnest things when we put together, what we had is this diaper cake that we put together and we had a committee that’s put together for our new year’s baby just to kind of what types of things we’d like to do as gifts for them and we get all these inputs from different individuals and we put together this diaper cake this time and we all participated putting it together this time and it was just a really really exciting time" said Doug McBride of Madison Memorial Hospital.
Portneuf Medical Center also had their new year’s baby Tuesday; he was born at 4:14 p.m. to Estephanny Medel from American Falls.
