Over one week after an Idaho Falls man kicked and tried to bite officers, formal charges have now been filed.

Police arrested Ronald R. Mencer, Jr., 44, on two counts of battery on an officer and obstructing and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors.

Officers made the arrest at the Law Enforcement Building Tuesday afternoon.

Detectives say Mencer attacked two Idaho Falls Police Officers on April 7 in the 400 block of G Street.

Officers had been in the area investigating a reported disturbance. Mencer approached police while they were speaking with a resident and allegedly tried to hit them with an unidentified object. A scuffle ensued and police used a drive stun on Mencer multiple times to gain control of the situation but it was ineffective.

With the help of additional officers, police were eventually able to detain and cuff Mencer. Shortly after he was cuffed, Mencer went unconscious.

He was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. Mencer has now been booked into the Bonneville County Jail on Tuesday.

Idaho Falls Police has asked the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office to investigate the incident to determine if officers acted appropriately
