The Idaho State Department of Education says a meat supplier for dozens of local schools has issued a ground beef retrieval.

The Central Valley Meat Company says the ground beef packages, lot number 6063A3089A and production date of 3/30/2013, may contain small pieces of plastic.

This product was delivered to 86 different Idaho School Food Authorities from July 2 through September 6. It may have been served in some of those schools but none so far have reported problems with the product.

As of Monday, school districts and other organizations that may have received this product were notified immediately and asked to identify and pull the product from their shelves.

Once identified, schools should send an email to the State Department of Education with the number of cases on hand, and Northwest Distribution, the state's contractor, will make arrangements to pick up and replace this ground beef. The product will be destroyed once retrieved.
