A Jefferson County employee located a possible explosive device at work Tuesday at the Circular Butte Landfill.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the landfill.  They later requested a bomb squad from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office be called out to determine what kind of explosive it was and remove it from the area.

Bomb experts say it is a military grade explosive and requires the further attention of the officials with the Mountain Home Air Force Base.  The device appeared to have been discarded with other military memorabilia.

Sheriff Blair Olsen says if you encounter any kind of old ammunition, or other military ordinances, please contact your local law enforcement agency rather than discarding it.

That is a M112 block demolition charge. It's 1 1/4 pounds of Composition 4 (C-4) plastic explosive. By itself it wouldn't be a problem but, unfortunately, it appears there is a weathered piece of detonating cord [also called det cord or primacord] underneath it. And that is probably connected to a BLASTING CAP—which makes the whole thing a problem. SOLUTION: BIP—Blow in Place.
