Officers with the Pocatello Police Department were called to the Pocatello Regional Airport Monday after airport employees discovered a World War II era mortar.

Lieutenant Paul Manning says officers and firefighters with the Pocatello Fire Department and airport officials worked to secure the scene and began the process of disposing of the mortar round which is believed to be leftover from when the airport was an Army Air Base.

The device has been secured on scene and a military explosive ordnance disposal team will be at the airport on Tuesday to remove or destroy the device.

Lieutenant Manning also says if you ever find a device like this it is best to not touch it and notify local law enforcement.
