Saturday night blocks away from ISU, you will start to hear the engines roar and the ground shake because Holt Arena is holding its annually Monster Truck Grand National Championship. Summer Joy spoke with Big Ed Beckley, who hosts the event and also plans to hit the dirt himself and make a new world record.
The trucks are being unloaded and the Holt Arena is being filled with dirt, that can only mean one thing, Big Foot and Heartbreaker, among many other monster trucks, are back in town to take the trophy home.
"It's fun and that's why I think it draws such a big crowd because people are looking for fun stuff to do. The Holt Arena has the best seats in the whole world, there's not a bad seat in the whole thing. Somewhere along that whole floor there is going to be action," said Big Ed Beckley, the World's Largest Motorcycle Jumper.
The event begins at 7:30, but doors open at six. At the rally you will get to see, racing, wheelie and spiral donut contest, biggest air, and of course car crushing madness.
"This is americana, that is what it is about; there is no Toyota monster trucks. I'm riding a Harley. This is American fun, good red, white, and blue, American people and that's what this area is about," added Beckley.
One of the highlights of the evening will be Big Ed Beckley going for a new world record in the longest jump with a motorcycle over eight semi's in an inside arena.
"I wan't to do it because I love this area and I want to put Pocatello back on the map. You guys have had the worst football for so long, it's time for a winner. Come out and listen to these things roar and hopefully not watch me splat. I've wanted to make my mark in life, I just don't want it to be on the north wall at Holt Arena," said Beckley.
Ticket cost between 15 and 32 dollars depending on where you sit and when you buy them. You can get them at vickers western stores, holt arena, isu's information desk, or you call 282-fans, or you can also go online to www.Isu.Edu / tickets.
The show will be about three hours long, and my advice take a pair of ear plugs and enjoy the show. Good luck to Mr. Berkley and we will let you know how he did on Saturday night at ten.
