A new dance academy in the Idaho Falls area is offering a dance that hasn’t gotten much attention in the area until now. Reflections Academy of Dance had a ribbon cutting today and will be offering belly dancing classes to the public.
Reflections Academy of Dance just opened its doors in April, they currently are offering two belly dance classes, a yoga class, a zumba class and marshall arts….but the class that has been turning the most heads, is belly dancing.
“It’s growing and growing more and more all the time which is really wonderful, people of all ages can do it, we have people ranging you know from their 20’s past their 60’s who do this” said owner Lanae Surerus.
Even men have decided to come and join in on the classes. There are three belly dancing instructors who switch off between two classes.
“It takes different parts of the body and you have to work those muscles and separate those parts of the body and make them move in ways you’re not used to moving. It’s a low impact exercise which is good if you have problems with knees and hips and joints and stuff” continued Lanae.
Lanae fell in love with belly dancing about 4 years ago after taking a class at Eastern Idaho Technical college; she now wants to spread that love for dance to residents in the area.
“It’s just a great way to connect with other people, and support each other and make each other feel better about ourselves and, I have some wonderful friends that I’ve met along the way” said Lanae.
Belly dancing classes at Reflections Academy of Dance are $35 for 5 classes.
The ladies will also be helping out with a fundraiser tomorrow for a woman that needs a kidney transplant. That will begin at 11 a.m. at the 116 Sports Bar and Grill in Idaho Falls.
