If you haven’t been to Lava Hot Springs in a while you’ll notice some big changes when you arrive. The exterior of the Olympic Swimming Complex has a new look but it’s what is going in the inside that has Lava Hot Springs’ officials so excited for the future.
From the speed slides to the platform dive, Lava Hot Springs has a fix for adrenalin junkies everywhere but if you were waiting for that growth spurt to bring you above 3 feet, the swimming complex probably wasn’t your favorite place.
“Unless your name is “Bob”, you really don’t have a good time in there because that’s all the kids can do is put on their water wings and bob,” said Mark Lowe, Executive Director of the Lava Hot Springs Foundation.
To remedy the issue, officials in Lava Hot Springs decided to make some improvements.
“This pool will have the in pool toys, bucket that dumps on them, troughs where they can divert water and play with the water and actually get in and have a good time on something that’s scaled for that small child,” said Lowe.
Once it is finished, the new kiddie area will have a zero depth pool, naturally heated floors and natural hot pool that will seat a dozen or so adults.
“The windows along the south side look out onto the river,” continued Lowe. “It really opens it up the feel of the outdoors even during the winter. During the summer time, we’ve got large doors that open up so that you can go directly from this pool to the outside setting, to the outdoor Olympic Swimming Complex.”
The indoor pool is still open and they have special rates during construction.
They are still looking for a name for the new kiddie complex. You can submit your ideas to their Facebook page. The person who has the winning name will get a prize. The foundation hopes to open the new area in mid-May.
